Do video recordings for the first (online) round need to be made specifically for the competition?
No. Videos may be newly recorded, but this is not required.
You may submit:
Live performance recordings
Concert recordings
Any existing video that best represents your performance
Recordings do not need to be professional or multi-camera.
A quality recording made with a smartphone is fully acceptable.
What is the maximum instrumentation allowed for string orchestra?
The maximum string orchestration considered is 6.5.4.3.2, including possible use of divisi.
Can I combine different instruments and ensembles?
Yes. Any combination of the listed instruments and ensembles is permitted.
Examples include:
A solo instrument or voice with string quartet or string orchestra.
Mixed instrumental combinations such as violin, bandoneon, and piano, etc.
Important: You may not duplicate any individual instrument (except within a standard string quartet or string orchestra).
For example, two pianos or two cellos are not allowed.
Must the composition be newly written for the competition?
No. The composition does not have to be written specifically for this competition.
Previously composed, performed, or recorded works are fully acceptable.
However: the work must not have been previously published in terms of sheet music availability.
Do composers attend the competition in Como?
No. Composers do not attend the competition in Como.
Only the full jury evaluates the compositions live in the final round, whereas the first round is an online selection stage.
Who covers transaction fees for the participation fee?
All transaction fees must be covered by the participant.
Bank transfer: all transaction costs must be fully covered by the applicant.
PayPal: the participation fee is increased by €5 to cover PayPal charges borne by the recipient.
