Astor Piazzolla: The Father of the Nuevo Tango

Musicologist, accordionist, arranger, and composer, he graduated with honors in Musicology from the D.A.M.S. – Faculty of Letters and Philosophy at the University of Bologna, presenting a thesis on contemporary accordion music.
He has taught Music Theory, Harmony, History of Music, and Accordion at various institutions throughout his region. From 1992 to 2013, he served as Artistic Director of the “Città di Castelfidardo” Award and International Competition, and from 1994 to 2001 as Artistic Director of the “Astor Piazzolla” International Award.
He has delivered numerous lectures in Italy and abroad— including Croatia, the Czech Republic, Andorra, France, Slovenia, China, Finland, Austria, Montenegro, and Slovakia—focusing on the life and works of Astor Piazzolla, the accordion and its repertoire, and broader historical and musicological topics. He has also served as a jury member in numerous national and international competitions.
He authored the section dedicated to musical repertoire in the book Castelfidardo and the History of the Accordion. In 2004, he published The Concert Accordion and Its Repertoire, an in-depth study of contemporary writing for the instrument through the analysis of forty significant late twentieth-century works.
In September 2021, he published Astor Piazzolla – il padre del Nuevo Tango: Cronologia, opere e discografia ragionata with Edizioni Curci, featuring a preface by Laura Escalada and Daniel Villaflor Piazzolla. The English edition, Astor Piazzolla – The Father of the Nuevo Tango, was released in 2023. In 2024, the volume received the award for “Best Discography Research in Historical Recorded Sound” from the Association for Recorded Sound Collections.
As a composer, he primarily focuses on chamber music for accordion. He currently serves as CEO of the Bugari Armando Accordion Company.

Laura Moro has served as Editorial and General Director of the Classical Division since 2000. She created the Curci Young, Curci Jazz, and Curci Libri imprints; oversaw the acquisition of the Bèrben catalogue of Ancona; launched the digital project Edizioni Curci Digital; and initiated the teacher training and professional development platform Curci fa scuola.
In recent years, she has focused her work on publishing new repertoire by contemporary composers and on reviving works by twentieth-century authors who were marginalized for historical and political reasons.

After graduating in violin and piano, he began teaching and performing in Switzerland, Italy, France, Germany, and the United States. He continued his musical studies in orchestral conducting, earning significant recognition. He has worked as an assistant and musical collaborator to Diego Fasolis and has conducted some of the most renowned musical institutions, including the Swiss Radio Choir, the Orchestra of the Teatro Cilea in Reggio Calabria, and the Orchestra filarmonica of the Teatro Comunale di Bologna.
He was responsible for the Martha Argerich project and has been at the helm of Ceresio Estate for more than ten years.
